When you first visit the SCC Homeschool Network forum, you will only see this collection of welcome messages until you have registered. Registering will show you many, many more categories of messages, including County Communities, Free and Paid Classes, Co-ops, and Clubs, Teen Boards, Buy/Sell/Trade, and more!

Think of this forum like a collection of real life bulletin boards with a steady stream of homeschoolers that stop by to look at them. Instead of having one board with every kind of message plastered up willy-nilly, we've divided the messages into groups to make them easier to find.

The title in the dark blue header describes a category of messages (i.e. County Communities, Free Classes, etc.), the titles in light blue rectangles are more specific categories (i.e. North County, South County, etc.). Click on these titles in light blue to see a list of messages.

To read messages, click on the title of the message. The message and all replies to it will be shown on your screen.

To post a reply to a specific message for everyone to see, click on the "PostReply" button at the top or bottom of the message. Type your reply in the box and press the "Send" button below the box when you are finished. You message will be posted under the original message and viewable by all other members. This is good for group discussions or asking questions that will clarify the post for other members as well.

To send a reply only to the person who wrote the message
, look to the right of the message you wish to reply to. You will see one or more buttons. One button shows a head and the letters MP-- this is the "Private Message" button. Clicking this button will allow you to send a private message to the person who made the post. The person will need to view this message while in the forums, but only he or she can see it. Another button shows an envelope-- this is the Email button. Click this button to send an email message that will show up in the person's regular email. The Private Message button and Email button are good for when you only need to communicate with that one person, for instance to RSVP or respond to a For Sale post.

To post your own message that announces a new event or starts a new line of discussion, begin by clicking on the button that says "New Topic" in the category that seems most like a match to what you want to write about. Don't worry! If you put your message in the wrong area, the moderators can move it for you! From this point, the forum works something like email. Give your topic as specific a title as you can-- for instance, "Book Club in Soquel for 10-14 year olds" instead of "Club for homeschoolers". Write your message in the box-- you can add different kinds of text and links using buttons across the top if you choose. Press the "Preview" button to see how the message will look before you post it. Press the "Send" button to post your message in the forum.

To view the posts that have been added since your last visit, click on the words "View posts since last visit" which are located right above the Welcome forum on the main page. A list of all the posts that were added since your last visit will be shown. You can also find new posts by looking at the circle icon to the left of each forum. Forums with new posts will have a red circle icon next to them.

If you have any questions, please post them in the Suggestions/Questions area or send a Private Message or Email to the "Admin" or any of the "Moderators".

thanks for adding the new info. I think you mean circle to the "left" of each forum, not right. I don't have an edit option on this.
